Question:
|
Dataenter
products - compatibility and requirements
|
|
Answer:
|
All
Dataenter products sold by Ceratec are multi-threaded
32-bit applications and operate under Windows
NT 4.0, 2000 Professional, XP Professional or
95/ 98/ ME/ XP Home.
XWall
and Popbeamer work with any version of Microsoft
Exchange, Lotus notes, Imail and many other SMTP
servers.
Requirements:
Pentium series 150 and up or AMD K6, Athlon, Duron
CPU, 64-meg system memory. Windows platform and
working TCP/IP connection.
|
|
Question:
|
How
long have you sold this mail server series?
|
|
Answer:
|
Longer
than I can remember. I bought the first Mailbeamer
from Dataenter
in Austria sometimes in 1996 and I used it on
a Modem router. The router took forever to connect
and Mailbeamer timed out before a connection could
be made. I reported my unusual problem (back then)
to Michael and 24 hours later I had a patch. Soon
after version X.XX +1 was released with an adjustable
time-out. I use and sell his products ever since.
Michael updates and upgrades his products constantly
ensuring you get the best performance and features.
He has never charged an additional dime. Every
upgrade I ever installed was solid programming
and never has any of his programs caused any crashes.
There is a long list of large and small companies
that have used Dataenter products for years.

Generally, any Internet capable remote access

Question:
|
How do I change the SMTP port on Exchange
Server?
|
|
Answer:
|
In Exchange server 2000 go to System
Manager -> Select Servers (look for
your Server) -> selectProtocols / Select
"Default SMTP Server" and choose 'Properties
>General >Advanced> now you should be
able to editor change the port number; Usually,
I use 24 or 8025. Whatever you choose, it must
correspont to the port Xwall uses to send to your
exchange server.
Exchange servers 4.0, 5.0, 5.5:
You have to edit the registry. Here is Microsofts
FAQ on how to do it. .http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q173903

Question:
|
We have about 15 sales persons. They are on
the road off and on and they use AOL when they
are not in the office. How can we cover them with
the SMTPbeamer?
|
|
Answer:
|
You have options - Even with AOL. You can forward
to a mailbox like AOL or Hotmail.
You can make the Mail server visible on port
80 and enable the HTTP interface on SMTPbeamer.
You can make it visible on port 25/113
-
Plus - Full access to your mail server from
outside
-
Cons - We have reports that AOl and some
others block port 25 (SMTP).
-
Cons - More holes in the firewall
Make it visible on port 25 only if you really
need to and if you do route it over a different
IP. The reason for that, there are blacklists.
Your IP address will get on there and the subscribers
to the list will block your messages in order
to curb spam.

|
Question:
|
How do I get Xwall and Exchange server to work
on the same machine?
|
|
Answer:
|
Xwall is not a addon library nor does it do any
modification to Exchange. It's a multi- threaded
program which can run on a seperate machine outside
the firewall or on the same machine as the exchange
server. If you run it on the same machine you
need to set the SMTP port on exchange to something
else besides port 25. Let's say to port 24. Save
the changes and now go to the Xwall admin and
set it to send to exchange on port 24. Save and
start mbserver (Xwall)
.

Question:
|
Xwall will not connect to Spamcop
|
|
Answer:
|
Xwall works fine with Spamcop. Check if you set
the machine to a valid DNS server address. Since
you most likely run Xwall on a static IP address
the DHCP server will not supply a DNS server addess.
If you have Internet Explorer on the same machine
see if you can browse the web.

Question:
|
I have a problem with McAfee Virus scan and Xwall.
|
|
Answer:
|
Your problem is that both Vshield and Xwall fight
for the same files. You can turn off Vshield but
you can set it to cooperated with Xwall. Go to
Vshield advanced settings, Exclude. Enter the
Xwall folder and the Temp folder. Make sure you
have the right temp folder. It's in a personal
directory on Win 2000 or XP. Now they will work
great together.

Question:
|
I want to keep a copy of
all messages. Where does Xwall store them?
|
|
Answer:
|
The "keep message option" goes into
a fixed directory (HIST-IN and HIST-OUT.)
This is the same as in SMTPBeamer.

|
Question:
|
Why can Xwall not do a reverse lookup on my friends
good email address?
|
|
Answer:
|
The IP does not have a PTR and it does not matter
if his ISP assigns a static or dynamic address.
The IP address does not resolve to a domain name.
He needs to contact his ISP.

Question:
|
How do I run Xwall as service
|
|
Answer:
|
-
At the command line change to the xwall directory
- type
MBSERVER INSTALL
NOTE! As with all NT services by default they
are installed as LOCALSYSTEM. If you use NT authentication
to protect your SMTP relay Xwall will not be able
to authenticate the user. You must change the
log-on setting for the service.
- go
to control panel select services (nt) or Admin
tools and services to 2000.
-
Locate the xwall service (mbserver)
- Right
click and select properties
- Click
on LOGON
- Change
to domain user
- add
user and password.
- Save/app
Please note that as a service you will no longer
see the log entries on the screen. I recommend
enabling the log features.
