Bring your List server in-house
List servers are a great tool for anybody
who wants to stay in the loop. Can you imagine yourself
without email? Most of us can't. How did we ever function
without it? That's how people feel after they use a
list server for awhile. The applications of list servers
are endless.
LIST
SERVER BASICS:If you are new to list servers, they
receive messages and distribute them to all members
of the member list. You as a member get an email let
say once a day containing all emails sent by group members
to the list server. Of course, schedules are adjustable.
REPLACE MEETINGS: A list server
can be the daily meeting. You don't have daily meetings?
Why? To complicated to get the people in one room? Is
Fred on the road again? The early shift went home an
hour ago.? These are meeting buster situations but no
issue to a list server. Just like Email you send the
massage when you have the idea and the others read and
reply when they have time.
BOARD of DIRECTORS: The list server
is the perfect tool for board members to stay in the
loop between board meetings. The members attend the
meetings more informed and can devote the meeting time
to discuss solutions. The
list server is far superior to just sending email to
the group. It allows a structured flow of information.
HOBBY CLUBS: Start a list about
your favorite hobby. You'll "meet" others
interested in the hobby and you will have the opportunity
to share your knowledge of the subject. I have subscribed
to the T-bird list for years. I keep all the messages
and if I need an answer I search through them.
YOU'RE IN CONTROL: Arrow makes
it easy to create and maintain interactive or read-only
mailing lists. Arrow is powerful, yet easy to use. Arrow
allows you to run a "moderated" list where
you review messages before posting them to the mailing
list. Arrow can also run unattended to automatically
process list messages.
EASY TO SETUP: Arrow features an Explorer-like
interface for browsing lists, folders, and messages.
You can even create your own folders for storing and
organizing messages. Arrow's New List Wizard guides
you through the process of creating a mailing list.
You can customize (and even add) commands to those recognized
by Arrow. Filters allow you to customize how Arrow processes
incoming messages.
FLEXIBILITY: Subscribers can choose
to receive individual messages or digests. Digests are
single messages containing a collection of all the messages
posted to the list during the desired "digest period"
specified by the subscriber. Tag lines, headers, and/or
footers can be added to posted messages. "Dated"
tag lines can be specified which are used on specific
days of the year. Although Arrow is designed primarily
for interactive mailing lists, you may create "Read-Only"
or "Announcement" lists.
SEND & RECEIVE: Some ISPs require
that you check for new e-mail before you can send messages
through their SMTP server.
Therefore, Arrow will (optionally) check a specified
POP3 account before trying to send mail. ArrowMailer
allows Arrow to send messages directly to each recipient's
SMTP server - taking much of the burden off your ISP's
mail server. Arrow allows multiple lists to use a single
POP3 server. If you can forward messages to the POP3
server, Arrow will use the "to" address to
route the incoming messages to the proper list. Arrow
uses a standard Internet mail protocols to read messages
from your POP3 and to send them to your SMTP server.
SPAM CONTROL: Arrow includes security features
to help control problem subscribers. A Subscriber can
be marked as a "Twit" - messages from "twits"
are immediately reflected back to the "twit"
as if they were posted. Only after being reviewed by
the list moderator, can the message be posted to the
rest of the list subscribers. Subscribers can be marked
as "Banned" - messages from banned subscribers
(including command messages) are ignored.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Arrow requires
Windows (98, NT, 2000, or XP), at least 64M of memory,
and about 10M of disk space (disk space will vary depending
on the size and number of messages you leave in Arrow's
folders). You also must have an Internet connection
and access to a POP3 account and SMTP server for Arrow's
use.
TEST IT FOR FREE: You can download
and try the unregistered version of Arrow. The unregistered
version allows you to create one mailing list with up
to 50 subscribers. If you like what you see you can
upgrade to the registered version which does not have
this limitation.
VERY AFFORDABLE: If you find Arrow
useful and need to overcome the limits of the unregistered
version, you can purchase a license to use the full
version of Arrow for $50.00 (US). You will receive
a license key by e-mail that enables the features of
the full version. The key you receive will work with
the current release and beta (test) versions of Arrow
and all future versions of Arrow.
